About the Area

The Best of Town and Country.

Tucked away just five miles south of Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, the Fairwood Cottages property offers the rare combination of peaceful seclusion and unbeatable access to everything Charlottesville has to offer. Our location strikes the perfect balance between the quiet, privacy, and expansive views of a mountaintop setting, while still being minutes from restaurants, wineries, history, and outdoor adventures.

From here, you can easily explore iconic landmarks like Monticello and James Monroe’s Highland, sip your way through the Monticello Wine Trail, or take a scenic drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Charlottesville’s rich history and culture make it a vibrant community with endless things to see and do. We’ve included some of our favorites below, but check out visitcharlottesville.org for a full list of places and activities.

attractions

There is no shortage of activities in Charlottesville! Tour Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello and the University of Virginia, enjoy dramatic vistas from the top of Carter’s Mountain, and take in a show at the historic Paramount Theater on the Downtown Mall.

wineries and vineyards

Virginia is for Wine Lovers! The Charlottesville area is home to dozens of wineries and vineyards, most with daily tasting room hours. Our favorites include Eastwood Farm and Winery, Blenheim Vineyards, Pippin Hill Farm and Vineyards, and Michael Shaps Wineworks.

More of a beer lover? Charlottesville’s growing list of breweries includes Three Notch’d Brewery and Random Row Brewing Co.

outdoor adventures

Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy everything from hiking to kayaking to hot air ballooning. We recommend a scenic hike up Humpback Rock or a private guided tour on horseback through one of the many beautiful vineyards or orchards.

Only a 30 minute drive from the south entrance of Shenandoah National Park, there’s so much to explore!
